Green Schools

Dear Parents,

Scoil Chaitriona Jnr is a Green School. We got our Green Flag in April 2007. We are implementing teh Programme for Litter and Waste which explores ways of reducing the amount of litter and waste produced by the school.

To help implement the programme we request that:

1. The children take home their lunch rubbish.

2. That they use reusable and recyclable containers for food and drink.

3. That they do not throw litter outside or inside the school.

The children can take the following items to school for recycling:

- Batteries

- Mobile Phones

- Printer Carttidges (No Epsom or broken items)

Our Green Schools co-ordinator is Mrs. Mary Browne.

1st School Trip in 2nd Class

On Thursday the 18th of October all second classes will be going to the Town Hall theatre to see the Baboró production of the "Corryvreckan". We are really looking forward to it!!! The Corryvreckan Whirlpool is one of the most dangerous whirlpools in the world. This production tells the story of Prince Breakan, who falls in love with the Princess Jura. But alas, love is not easy and Prince Breakan must anchor his boat in the treacherous whirlpool for 3 days and 3 nights before being granted the Princesses hand in marriage. Watch this space for some photos and reviews by the children in 2nd class.

Welcome Back 2nd Class

Welcome back to school. We are now in second class and are hoping to work hard this year. We are very happy with all our new books and we are looking forward to moving into our new classroom on the 8th of October.

Sports Day

Sports' Day 2007 was held in the grounds of Renmore Jnr School and in the Renmore Pitches on the 25th and 26th of May. All children participated the 50m and 200m races. Novelty Races included:

• Potato & Spoon
• Sack Race
• 3-legged Race

Every child won a prize for competing and the children who came first, second and third received medals.

A fantastic time was had by all.

Our School Tour

On the first of June the children in first and second class went on their school tour to the Let's Go summer camp in NUI Galway. It was an action packed day that challenged, educated and entertained the children. The children were provided with opportunities to develop their social, physical and creative skills. Every child was encouraged to participate in an exciting and diverse range of activities including:

• Bungy Trampoline - reach new heights on our new and exciting bungy trampoline
• Human Table Football - get right into the middle of the action with this giant version of table football.
• Climbing Wall - How high can you climb?
• The Eliminator - Energy Draining Excitment on the Inflatable Obstacle Course
• Fling Sock Games
• Whuck - Floor Hockey
• Pelmanism - a challenging team game involving running, memory and observation
• Parachute Games
• Speed Stacking

First class went to the University in Galway. lt was the 1st of June 2007. We went there because we worked hard all year. lt was a sports camp.We did Rock Climbing and Human Foot-Ball , Obstaele courses, crab football and we saw a magicion.Then we went on the Eliminator. We had a very good time on our School tour. The End.

We went on our school tour to the University.We went because we worked very hard.We went on the 1st of June 2007.We played rock climbing,human football,bungy trampoline,obstacle course,lunch,crab football,magician and the Eliminator.After lunch we went home. We had a great time.The end.

Why did you go? Because we worked hard all year.

The first thing I did was human football. The second thing was rock climbing. Then we did the bungy trampoline. It was fun. After lunch there was magician.

My name is SMC Our school tour.

We are first class and we went to the Unversity on our school tour on the 1st of June 2007. We went because we worked really hard all year and deserved it. We went rock climbing but I didn't do it.Everybody said it was great fun but I still didn't do it because it looked scary. Then we did human table-football. I did that.My team won. After that we did bungy trampoline you can go really high on it and was so fun. After bungy trampoline we did an obstical course it was exciting. Then we had LUNCH everybody loves lunch! After that we did crab football it was great and last the magician was very funny. After him we got back on the bus and returned to school and went home. We had a fantastic day!
