Our Autumn Walks

We went on an Autumn Walk to learn more about our locality. We collected different types of leaves and we used them in our art lessons. Here is a website that we used to learn more about Autumn Leaves: http://www.kidzone.ws/plants/ Here are some photos of our Autumn Walk. We noticed that the leaves on the tress have changed colours. Some of the leaves have fallen off the trees.
Some of the children brought clip boards with them. They were then able to record different things that they saw. They were able to shade over the leaves with pencils and they compared the leaves that they found with pictures of leaves from our work book.
We enjoyed working with our partners, we collected many different types of leaves.
Here is a picture of some of the children in our class enjoying their nature walk.

Making Sandwiches

We made sandwiches in our class and then we wrote out recipes using our Instructional Writing skills.
This is a ham and butter sandwich made from brown bread.
We really enjoyed our delicious, healthy sandwiches!!!
Some people chose to make blackcurrent and butter sandwiches.
This is a healthy tomato and cheese sandwich.
We spread the butter or mayonaise onto the bread using a knife.
The children cut their sandwiches using a sharp knife. But we were very careful!!!
YUM YUM-Tasty Tomato Sandwiches!!!
Don't forget to eat the crusts!!! That's the healthiest part of the bread!!!
Thumbs UP!!! WELL DONE rang a Dó!!! A delicious, healthy lunch for everyone!!!
We wrote up the instructions for making Healthy Sandwiches. We know the features of instructional texts...
We remember to have a title, to write down our ingredients (what we need), the method (what to do), we use numbers to mark each step and each instruction starts with a verb.
We always include a diagram / picture and it is handy to leave a tip for people who will be following our instructions eg. Get an adult to help with cutting when using a sharp knife!!
Here is a website to help you with writing instructions:

videos of the children's DANCING RAISINS experiment

Dancing Raisins

Dancing Raisins: Carbon dioxide gas dissolved in soft drinks gives them their fizz. You can use the carbon dioxide fizz from a soft drink to make raisins dance. For this experiment you will need: a can of colorless soda (e.g., 7-Up or Sprite) a tall, clear glass or plastic cup several raisins (fresh raisins work the best) Method: Pour the can of soda into the tall glass. Notice the bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass. The bubbles are carbon dioxide gas released from the liquid. Drop 6 or 7 raisins into the glass. Watch the raisins for a few seconds. Describe what is happening to the raisins. Do they sink or float? Keep watching; what happens in the next several minutes? Have a look at our photos and our videos to see the children in 2nd Class doing this experiment.

Hi, a big welcome back to everybody from Miss Costello!!
We have spent the first 3 weeks of school settling into 2nd Class and we are now really enjoying it!
So far this term we have been concentrating on ourselves and our neighbourhood.
We realise how important it is to be healthy and to look after ourselves.
We have learned alot about food groups, the food pyramid and making healthy, delicious foods and snacks. Here are some websites for playing games and finding more information about being healthy.
